My FIL sent me a bunch of pre-Rapala chug bugs, and he wanted me to paint some in bleeding tennessee shad. Fortunately one of the ones he sent was that color. From what I can tell from them, they had a platinum pearl belly (I had to just kinda dirty up some white pearl, cause I didn't have any platinum pearl). Then from the midline up it was sprayed black with a gold sprayed on top of that (scale pattern), black back, and fluorescent orange throat. Then red gills and "blood splatter" and the yellow eyes. I really like you pattern, just thought I'd remind you of an old pattern that is similar. I have a handful of these chug bugs along with some old pop-rs. Haven't decided what to do with them yet. I caught a lot of fish on those chug bugs before they were bought out.

Nice looking baits. Regarding that pattern, have you done any that weren't as dark on top ? It'd be interesting to see what a more subtle dorsal area looked like.

No sir, on the deep divers I prefer a hard contrast in colors from the main color to the back color. It seams to be more productive for me. I could definitely lighten it up some and possible go with a greenish back color more like the sk Tennessee shad.

Very cool .... Just thought I'd ask Been doing some study on various shad photos, so I'm always interested to see people's interpretation of the various species and locales. I dig your pattern a lot...looks like it'd be effective.
