I'm looking to get an inexpensive finder for my canoe. I'm not looking to break the bank and these looked like the beginners set up. I would like to stay under $150 and could push to $200 but not really wanting to do that.

Does anyone have any experience with these units? I've searched the internet and reviews are mixed so there's no real definite winner.

Thanks for any insight.

ps. (I'm really not sure the difference in the lowrance elite 3x and the hook 3x)

Well the Hook3x is pretty much the same unit only with newer software than the Elite 3x. So the Hook 3x would be my choice out of those 2.

But honestly, go with the 197C DI. Having Down Imaging is a big advantage.
