I didn't have scales. The tip of the cork to the butt of the rod is 10.5" and the reel is 2.75" across.

Caught in the Brazos below Whitney, today.

The fish or the rod?

Just kidding, I'm not good at estimating weights, but that's a nice bass.

But seriously, what size rod were you using?

Congratulations!

The rod is a 9' 6wt, with 8lb test tippet.

I'd caught a big bluegill and when I had the bluegill halfway to me this bass attacked it, spit it out and came back and took it again. I set the hook like you normally would for a bass and the hook came out of the bluegill and into the bass's lip. That's the third or fourth time that's happened in the past year or so.

Best I can tell is it's 21" long and 21" girth, based on the known lengths in the photo and how thick I remember it being. From the formula this would be an 8.16lb bass. Or so it would appear to me, how about to you?

I made a dumb math error. I still take it the bass is 21" long but the girth is more like 16". For some reason I was thinking the reel is 3 1/2" but it's 2 3/4" and I was using that to gauge the "depth" of the bass, and going from memory on thickness. By the formula this would be a 7 lb bass.

He was definitely a blast to catch.
