Has anyone hired a guide in this area? Experiences? Should I take my own equipment? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've fished the flats on the north end of Cozumel a few times. It's an easy ferry ride across from Cancun. Get the ferry in Playa Del Carmin. Nacho Euan is a very good guide there on Cozumel.

As far as Cancun itself, I have not fished it, but have seen several mixed reports. Yes, take your own gear.

Your best bet if not Cozumel, IMO, would be to go south to Tulum and beyond to Punta Allen. Several really top notch operations working out of there.

On further south is Xcalak and the Bay of Chetumal where some really great flats fishing awaits. I've fished it several times and its a great place to go....but you need to take a few days to do it right.

Second Cozumel. I actually got skunked looking for bonefish there the one day we went out but it was too early in the year - February. Cold front didn't help, either. The flats on the north end are a pretty spectacular place. You might fish besides some Mayan ruins. I had fun just "being there" - catching a fish would have just been icing on the cake.

Jesse10,
After posting those tarpon pictures, I am surprised anybody commented on this! LOL. Looks like Knuckles and I need to go visit your buddy Brent for a trip and thank him for the G2 on the redfish crack fly! smile Can't go wrong with Cozumel buddy!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the info! When the ocean calms in POC, you better be headed down there. If you watch his Facebook, he'll let you know when the timing is right.
