Anyone been on a 12 hour with these guys and this boat recently? Looking for some input between this and the scat cat for a quick day trip. Been a while since I've been on either one and I'm not up to speed with either of those. Thanks!

Bryan .... Just my opinion but the Dolphin Express (Captain Timmy) does a great job on 12 hr trips. It would be superior to the Scat Cat IMO.

But being stingy I like the Pelican at DSH for 12 hr trips because it's cheaper. Captain James is a fish hunter and goes all out to make the crowd happy. Some of my friends and i are already discussing plans to start doing 12 hr trips with James after school starts back up.

He is already catching Blackfins at the shrimp boats BTW.

I'm leaning towards DD or DSH vs FW. I may have a chance in a couple of weeks to take the kids down for a long weekend. I had kind of figured in my head already about those guys vs FW. Nothing wrong with FW but I've always caught more with DD or DSH. Good to hear about the blackfins behind the shrimpers. Thank you for the information.

Leave the big stuff at home. They just announced that AJ's will remain closed until next year . taz

Give me a heads up before you come down if you do.

Daughter and I booked for the Dolphin Express 12 hour night trip tomorrow!! She is stoked. Her first offshore trip. We chose to go this weekend since snapper season is expired.

Left feeling greatly disappointed. First time I have been disappointed with this group in 30 years of going. With snapper season over I asked them previously if they would be going for shark, kings, etc. I was told yes. Instead they went 4 hours out for vermillion snapper. Drop a big weight in 300 ft of water and wait for a small nibble. Current was strong so even with anchoring we still had a lot of tangles. Boat was late leaving and early to return. Deck hands were drinking on the way out. Can't believe how dissatisfied I am with them.

Im surprised to hear that deck hands were drinking, that does not sit well with me and may put me off from trying dolphin docks.
I was able to go out on the Pelican with Deep Sea Headquarters 8hr trip sunday. We went out past the oil rigs over a reef and drifted. I was able to hook up with 5 kings but lost one and the boat caught a total of 40 kings, two where massive, and a small cobia with ~30 people. After talking with the staff it seems that the 12hr trips with DSH may target tuna too bad its on a Wednesday.

That's pretty serious. I've been fishing head boats for 40 years and I don't think I have ever seen that. You can bet that if the captain knew that was going on then those deckhands would have made their last trip.

I believe you're right about that Bobby. Seems like it might be a federal no no for part of the crew to be drinking on duty. Sure enough at least get the boss's attention mad

James Wheeler down at DSH is a top notch dude. His deckhands Lloyd and Alex are super helpful. All three work hard to fill the boat.

Thanks for the reports guys. I had a trip booked for next wed with dd but after much research I switched to dsh. They seem to want to put their customers on different fish other than anchoring off and catching vermillion the whole time. I was real impressed with talking to them and I even asked them to send me pics of the last few 12 hr trips they have ran and it was amazing the difference in fish caugh vs the 12 hr trips with dd. I have been a dd fan for many years and have never used dsh but Gonna give it a try.
