Yesterday I lost what would have been my personal best bass! I was leaving Bass Pro at Ray Hubbard and made my new Finesse combo - TFO Medium Light spinning rod + Abu Revo SX30 reel, had Jim in Fishing put the 8 pound green Bass Pro mono on it. Decided to thread it and put a senko on it, test it with a wacky rig out on the docks behind the store, if nothing else just to get used to throwing a senko on a light line. Tried a few spots of the dock, it was around 6:00 PM, so there was some good shade under one of the main bridges, cast it under and let it sink, hopped it twice, and it was on. Didn't have my drag set up so struggled with that for a minute, and by the way that TFO rod was bent I knew something good was hooked. Got the drag set up and tried staying away from the dock pylons, reeled it to the top to see a 5-6 pound largemouth. Got giddy and bent down to land him, had his gills just at the surface, and he flopped and snapped the 8 pound mono right off. Needless to say, I ran home with my tail between my legs and re-spooled the rod with 12 pound trilene. Anyone wanna share a "one that got away" story to help me feel better? Going back on Tuesday to try and break my 4 pound personal best!

Fishing a tournament on lavon today I hooked into a 6 lber and had the rod doubled over. I asked my partner to get ready to lip the bass as I'm reeling her up to the boat. As she comes up the boat she nose dived and I gave her some line, and she responded by shooting straight out of the water and thrashing her head she tossed my shakey head senko and said, "See Ya!". Cost me third place.

Heading to Lavon next weekend hoping to have a run-in with some of those good bass!

Man....I lose a good fish everyday. I lost a really good fish on pool a month or so ago. It was easily a 9lb or so bass. I was devastated. Lol. I sat in the boat for a while, regrouped, and started fishing my way back to the launch. Thinking I will not get a bite like that for a while....a long while....then BOOM! A HUGE bass. Not 20 yards down the bank. This one was easily 11-12lbs. A giant for that lake. I have caught many, many, many overs in that lake. Biggest was 12lb9oz. This one looked bigger. I had it on a great rod, great reel, correct line for the job (30lb Seaguar flipping flouro), good hook, etc. I lost it due to complete incompetence. I had to apologize to everyone at the swim beach that was watching me cuss and scream like a fool after it broke off. Yep....loaded the boat and went home after that one.

Beating my 4 pound PB is much easier than hooking into a 10+ pound monster like those! Gah, well at least you know you can find them and hook them! Good luck next time man...

Those big gals just seem to know how to get away. I've lost many more than I've landed. If that is you in your avatar you look pretty young. When I was your age I was chasing them big bass too and getting my butt kicked time and time again by big ones. Just keep at it and you will start winning more of them battles. The one thing I changed that helped me land more big ones was the size of my hook. When I increased the size and went to a wide gap I started landing them more regularly. Look at the distance between the barb and bottom of the hook. Is there enough room there to accept the jaw bone of a big bass? They have thick jaw bones. I've landed 6 DD bass but I have had dozens on that got away. Just stay with it and keep on fishing! It won't be long before 5-6 pounders will be common for you.

Lost what would still be my personal best about 2 years ago and I'm still not okay to this dAy. I've been fishing the same area since then...I beat the area for hours every trip. You can catch another 5-6 , I don't know of I lost a 10 but it was close . I fought the fish , got it to the dock , bent over to pull her out , line snapped , fish went bye bye and everyone at the marina found out I can thoroughly use cuss words in different variations
