Saturday I was bass fishing on the north end of Ray Hubbard, and I caught a channel cat. When I cleaned it, it was full of eggs that weren't far from being ready to spawn. Anyone know why this fish would be spawning so late?

Channel cats usually spawn when water Temps are between 80-85 to my understanding, sometimes earlier, but usually those Temps are about right.

Here on Lake Conroe, I have caught channel cats every month of the year that had eggs. When they actually spawn is a different matter. I am thinking 80* or so too.

With all this flooding this year, might have thrown some of the fish off on the spawn. Rain water usually keeps the lake temp down longer.

Just like the rut with deer, the spawn isn't a 1 day window and its over, it will have a peak, but the duration of the entire spawn from first to last I'm guessing would cover a much larger time frame. Also if they spawn by water temperature it seems their location in the lake would also vary the spawn time.
