Main lake brush piles. Just move around and try out different piles until you find them. Not hard to find the locations of plenty of brush piles. They are available from many different sources. I'd be happy to take you out on a guided trip and show you some locations.

I had this Sunday open up due to customer rescheduling. I'm already running trips to Ray Roberts on Thursday and Saturday. Should still be plenty of fish left over for a Sunday trip as well.

Thanks for the kind words John and I really enjoyed having you guys out. I'll always remember the sight fished big channel cat off a brush pile. That was quite a catch from Mr. Kepler.

Good solid day on Ray Roberts. Had Delbert and James out with me today and they were really good crappie fisherman. I enjoyed having them on the boat. Started out with a dink fest on a main lake brush pile. Pulled up and hit a cove of timber. Started picking up big slabs on minnow tipped 1/16th ounce jig heads right away in 20 ft fishing 8-10 ft deep. Pulled a few big boys off each tree we hit for a few hours. Moved down the lake to hit some more timber in 20-25 ft and finished off a good cooler full of fish. Had 28 nice crappie, 3 cats, 2 sandies and a largemouth. Threw back a ton of small fish as well. Minnows made a big difference today.

I really enjoyed having Tommy and Mark out today. Still throwing back at least 10 small fish to every one keeper. They boated a ton of crappie today and almost fished out 2 buckets full of minnows. All fish today caught on timber in 16-20 ft of water. Cooler weather was a nice change and didn't slow the bite down.

Great trip - learned a lot and had a blast with Jacky.
Know many pros all catch fish but in addition, Jacky was a true pleasure to hang out with. Big additional bonus in my book. Looking forward to doing it again soon!! Tommy

Had Jerry and Mike out today for a half day trip. Fishing was slow on both the brush and timber in the early morning. They finally started biting really good around 11:00 on brush. The bite finished strong on both minnows and jigs. Jerry and Mike went home with a nice big bag of fillets.

Hello I am brand new to TFF so I hope I'm doing this right. I would like to buy a fresh caught/frozen alligator gar. I will pay $50.00 cash for a fish that is around three feet long. I live in Fort Worth and can easily drive to the Lake Ray Roberts area.

Hi Zepher,
Welcome to the fishing forum. I'm curious as to why you need an alligator gar. Really, you have my interest.
I believe an alligator gar is considered a game fish with a daily bag limit of one. That would mean you can keep one for yourself, or one on a booked professionally guided fishing trip.
If I'm correct that would mean it would be illegal for a licensed fishing guide (like Jacky Wiggins) or anyone else to sell one.
We are all friends here, or that is the ideal. Think I'm paranoid, because this sounds like a state game warden baiting someone for $50.

Not doing it right, you are highjacking a thread where a hardworking guide is showing off what his recent trips are producing. Whats really not right is you are in the wrong part of the forum. Maybe try the classifieds? Are Alligator Gar considered game fish in Texas? Limit 1/day..... Is it legal to sell game fish in Texas? Not looking for answers.... Back to the OP's subject...How hot is Ray Roberts?

Hello. I am wanting an alligator gar to photograph. I live in Benbrook and I am told (at Benbrook Marina) that there are no gar in Benbrook Lake. The girl that works there told me that she and her boyfriend were recently kayaking at Ray Roberts and saw lots of gar there. I am very sorry, I was definitely not trying to cause any problems. I guess I was hoping that the person that posed this (or one of his/her clients) might be able to sell me a fish. Any suggestions would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Had Mark and his son Jacob out today for some afternoon crappie fishing on Ray Roberts. The wind was pretty stout out of the Southwest which made fishing brush pretty tough. They boated a lot of 9 7/8 and barely 10 fish today which went back in the lake. Only cleaned around 12 keepers and a few cats today. The highlight was Jacob catching a huge largemouth on some timber on a 5'6" ultralight and 6lb test line. The fish even wrapped around a limb under water and never broke the line or pulled the jig. What a great memory for him and a awesome new personal best largemouth. They did catch a lot of smaller largemouth today as well. Congrats on a great fish and story to go with it.

Thanks Jacky. Jake and I had a great time. He got a memory that will last him a long time with that largemouth. It gave me an opportunity to mention the high school has a bass fishing team and maybe he and I could mix in a few bass fishing trips to get him ready...LoL. Though we didn't catch many keepers, we caught fish steady for the trip on both brush and timber. We would have filled the cooler with 9 inchers. I wanted to say thanks the most for your being enjoyable and taking the time to teach Jake more about fishing and showing me better ways to fish the brush as well. Thanks! Mark

Spent the afternoon with John and his two sons Landon and Logan. They were very novice fisherman but eventually they got going pretty good. They fished out 10 dozen minnows on brush and timber. Ended up with 20 keeper crappie (probably lost 10-15 more), 3 channel cats, 2 largemouth and a sandy for a fish fry. Threw back a load of small crappie, small largemouth and a few big drum. All in all a solid half day on the water and they had a blast. I still have some spots left for my special price this month.

Wanted to share the jig that has been working really well the last few weeks in Ray Roberts since the water has cleared up some. Seems best rigged on a 1/16 pink and white big bite jig head fished on 6 lb test. Another little thing is to tie it on with a loop knot that gives the jig a little more freedom to move around. They really like the fall and bite it most times before it reaches brush. Fish this jig on brush in 20-30 ft thats protected from the wind. Works on most timber as well fished 8-12 ft down in timber around 20 ft deep.

Enjoyed having Chris and his girlfriend out today for a half day trip on Ray Roberts. Brush piles in 20-30 ft produced good numbers of small crappie. Timber in 20 ft seemed to be the place for the big fish. Jig bite was really good early then gave way to the minnow bite towards midday. They boated a lot of fish and ended up with 30 solid keeper crappie and a few cats. She really put a hurting on some crappie today.

Had a really good morning with Mark from Lubbock and his wife on a half day trip on Ray Roberts. They caught some really fat crappie that had so much fat in them. Most of the big fish came off timber in 20 ft on jigs tipped with large minnows. The bite was really light early and then they got aggressive as the temp heated up and sun got up high. They boated over 100 fish and I cleaned 30 for them to take home. Had some bonus schooling white action as well. They enjoyed that a lot. I still have Saturday and Sunday both open for morning trips. I'll still offer the $200 half day trip for 2 deal. That includes your fish cleaned as well. This is a great deal for someone and a chance to catch some big crappie.

I have some opening next week. Decided to continue my discounted $200 half day trips for 2 for September. These trips include all gear, bait and your fish cleaned and bagged. The forecast is looking really good for the next few weeks and the big fish have been biting well. Should be an awesome September for crappie fishing this year.

I had the pleasure of taking Don and his wife Jackie out for a afternoon trip on Ray Roberts. Jackie started out with a huge crappie for her very first rod and reel fish. They boated lots of crappie and I ended up cleaning 24 nice crappie with some real fat ones like we have been seeing come from Ray Roberts the last few weeks. No pics since it was dark when we got back to the ramp to clean fish and everyone including myself was ready to get it done. They caught fish on Timber in 20ft and brush piles in 20-30 ft of water. Large minnows worked well on 1/8th ounce jig heads. I could work someone in on Saturday for an afternoon trip. I have some weekday spots open but booked on weekends until October. Still offering my $200 half day trips for 2 people.

Tough day of fishing on Ray Roberts yesterday morning after that storm blew across the lake for my customers Shawn and Richard. The high winds muddied a lot of the good timber and piles that had been producing the big fish lately. They ended up catching well over 50 fish later in the morning and I cleaned 17 keeper crappie and a nice blue cat. Most fish came off main lake brush piles and were holding tight to the brush. Minnows on chartruese and pink jig heads worked well with the stained water. Lot of green trash fish bit as well. Should be back to normal quickly and I have some weekday spots open for $200 half day trips for 2.

Tough day today for Kelly and his dad. The cold front and North winds made the early bite slow. As the temps picked up the bite did too. They fished out 10 dozen minnows and we had some fish on jigs as well. Lots of short fish today and some little green trash fish wasted a good amount of minnows. They caught 75 plus crappie and I cleaned 20 solid keepers with some real pigs in there as well. They had a great time and enjoyed the fishing, weather and beautiful lake. Fish came off brush and timber both. Timber around 20 ft with fish coming from 8-12 ft. Most brush piles in 30 ft and the fish were holding tight to the brush. Pink 1/8th ounce jig heads tipped with minnows worked well. I have Saturday morning open if someone wants to catch some big fat slabs right now.

Great day on the water with Evan and his son Bryson. The crappie were biting like crazy. Almost fished out 10 dozen minnows and they bit jigs as well. They caught fish on brush and timber. One brush pile had fish biting at 6-8 ft over the brush at 22 ft. The fish were hungry today. Way too many 9 7/8" fish biting or they.might have had a lot more keepers. They had a blast anyway catching way over 100 fish and 50 plus fish off one tree.
