The Bait Bucket in Rio Vista is closing. 2 years in a row Whitney has flooded. Along with vandal's she just can't keep the doors open. They are some of the nicest people. Sure going to miss her minnows. Just goes to show how many people and business are shut down when the corps floods Lake Whitney

Exactly. whitney is serving its purpose. Sucks for a few, but better than sucking for thousands of others

Very sad indeed. My wife and I love the little bait bucket. Honestly though, how long can a place survive exclusively on bait sales, especially with the weather fluctuations we've seen from drought to floods in only a few years time. Maybe if it were a gas station, beer stop, etc. like other places, she could survive. Not to mention being in Rio Vista can't possibly help matters. Just my two cents.

Maybe draw lakes down before flood season rather than letting lakes be full in early spring while el nino or wth is still around? cool

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

I hear your frustration,,, and yes lots of business are hurting. Hard to find a good bait shop anywhere,,,,
Marinas flooded. Parks closed it sux!!!!
But the fishing is better thsn ever. No golden algea in years and finally whitney is climbing back,
But we can thank the nice people to the north for raising all these stripers for us!!!!

That would be a huge gamble, and those complaining about too much water now, would be the same ones complaining about no water if they did that, and entered a drought. Nothing is guaranteed with weather patterns and forecasts. It is bad for the businesses, but they know the risks involved with flood control lakes.

Now, bring our Stripers back to PK!

If you do that, the spawn is going to take a major hit and then everyone will talk about how there is not as many fish as there once was so nobody is fishing the lake and the bait shops will still close down. Or that is my take on things.
