I know it is good lake and I know the recent floods have messed with the fishery a lot !

Just spent spent a long week at Tawakoni with my 2 kids and its hell coming home and trying to fish lol.

With that being said I'm looking for some help. Short of hiring a guide are there any of you guys that could help me out ? Heck take me show me if that easiest. I'll pay for the fuel !

I don't have a fancy boat so all the bells and whistles are out of the questions. Have a good graph and good trolling motor but that doesn't help much if you can not find the fish or get fish to bite. Trolling is "ok" but do not have the ability to use down riggers.

Slabbing, Rat l traps ect I can handle. I've learned to throw a cast net so I can catch my own bait or I can buy some Minnows if that's best. I'm just tired of having to go to a dock to let my kids catch perch just so the trips not a complete bust.

Any help or pointers or ride alongs or follow me trips would be greatly appreciated!

If you had rather PM me than post in the open then I'm OK with that as well.

Sorry I just saw you had replied.

Prefer hybrids & stripers, whites are great as well !! Then lastly up there would be Crappie.

Lucas you will not find many hybrids but you can find a ton of striper's and sand bass. Get you a map if you are not familiar with the lake but the areas that I talk about will be on the map. The area just inside Neely's Slew has been producing both Sand Bass and Striper's. Watch your electronics and if you get there early in the morning you will witness some schooling going on. It will not last for long but they are there. The island out in front of Gaines Bend is also a decent spot. The most consistent spot that I have witnessed is from Hog Bend(across from south d&d boat ramp), to the pump station. If you leave the ramp the pump station will be on your left as you are heading to Hell's Gate. Those fish have been staying up on the surface longer and the fish seem to be a little bigger. A couple of weeks ago before the lake started to clear up, the area in the back of Cedar Creek was loaded with Sand Bass and some small Stripers. I have not been in there since but during that time it was loaded. You start looking for them when you pass the last buoy marker marking the river channel. Now that the lake is starting to clear up the area around the peanut patch is also a good spot. From Sandy Beach up to North Shore and all points in between be on the lookout. If you are going to be there for a few days then you will have a chance to check out of these spots. If you are only going to be there for a day or two then the area around the pump station and Neely's Slew will be your best bet.

I live in Strawn so we generally try to run up there and fish a few times a week when the schedule & heat permit.
Since the flood I've only been up a couple of times.

Thank you for the tips and will certainly start looking those area last over !

Luke: I have a house on Neely Slough. I'm there most times during the week. Shoot me a PM and I'll let you know what is going on. Once I get my trolling motor fixed I'll even take you if you want and show you some places that are normally good. Live Shad have been the ticket since the floods but people are catching some fish on lures. Night fishing is good for sandbass and Perch.
