So I'm gonna go chase some kitties at hubbard creek tuesday-Thursday now that the lake has filled up, and I'm super excited. Gonna try drifting in some deeper water around humps, points, and channel edges in the Sandy creek arm. Also gonna put out some jugs to try and start a pattern. Also gonna try night fishing possibly on a couple of different shallow Sandy points.

Hopefully I'll be able to catch a couple carp, bluegill, and shad here in lubbock to take with me for bait, otherwise chicken breast will have to do.

Anyone else think this is a good way to go about catching some fish? I can't wait to get my kayak out, and this will also be my first solo camping trip so that's exciting too

The lack of advice tells me I'm on the right track!

I'd say your on the right track. Definitely get some fresh bait if possible. The shad have gotten better out there it seems like, so bring a net if you have one. Maybe bring a bait rod to catch some bluegills. I'd focus on likely feeding areas at night with live/fresh gills. And for daytime, I think you have the right idea of drifting deeper structure.
Last couple times I've been, it's been real tough, but that was before and around spawn.
Good luck to you. Looking forward to hear how you do.

Well the Sandy creek arm is alive with action whether it's blues, gar, or white bass. Lots of schooling white bass were seen all over, and it seems like the blues were located along channel edges in 30+ foot of water near structure, whether it was points or humps.

Here's the biggest one I caught.

I set 6 jugs out Wednesday morning but I had to abandon them until about noon because the wind started to blow my kayak around, so I hid behind a point where I caught the bigger one. When the wind died down I went back and checked my jugs in the hole that I set them in and all 6 had been touched, and either had missing bait or a fish. I also had a 4-5 foot gar break the knot on one of my jugs as soon as I picked it up, that it drug about 200 yards down the lake
