Kayaking trip to fish the Colorado river in Bastrop Texas.. The fishing was great but the "catching" left much to be desired.. Good thing I had my Canon otherwise there wouldn't be anything but memories to bring back! wink

Fishing for Guadalupe bass and sunfish just hasn't been the same since the 2015 flood.. I'm afraid all the silt washed in from flooding has done a bit more damage to the river ecosystem than meets the eye..

Cool video. It made me feel like I was there fishing. What camera did you use to shoot this?

You definitely know how to make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear". It's amazing what you do with that camera. Thanks again for another fantastic wildlife video. I'd say you got a wildlife grand slam with the otter, turkey, and deer. Most folks that paddle that trail will not see any of those animals.

I have better luck with the camera when it comes to catching!

The camera adds meaning and dimension to the story it tells.. I'm just along for the ride wink

We drop in the river at Fishermans park which is the starting point for the El Camino Real Paddling Trail

we take out 6 miles downriver at the Lost Pines Recreational Trails

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent floods, the gates to the Lost Pines Recreational Trails will remain closed and locked until Bastrop County repairs the road, removes the barricades and reopens Riverside Drive to thru traffic. There is still parking outside of the gates, but boaters will need to portage their boats about 50 yards from the river to the parking area. In addition, Riverside Drive is partially open but not safe for travel in certain areas. Barricades are appropriately placed by the county for safety reasons. Two new portable toilets have been placed outside the main gate. Trash cans will not be placed at the Lost Pines trails until Riverside Drive is reopened to thru traffic.

Good stuff as always Ben! I grew up on the upper Colorado and spent vast majority of time there as a youth there. The entire watershed is a wildlife meca. We are the stretch flow has not been so good. We have a spreader dam though and years with wet springs when we do get flow big stripers make it all the way from lake buccanon. They hit a wall and fall back to the first pool to spawn. We may not have the guads like y'all but big Florida bass from o.h. Ivie finally flooding. If conditions get right you and Jamie will have to come with me for sure! It's in the middle of us. Great vidio and trip there for sure.
