So I'm headed to galveston in the morning, and as a bass fisherman I'm pretty much clueless on the fishing in the area. So if you don't mind me asking, what's hot right now that I can catch from shore using my bass gear. I have money for bait terminal tackle or lures but I don't want to buy new rods. What lures or baits should I use? Also, if you don't mind, what are some good spots I could go to. I don't live there and am not familiar with the area.

Winds have been blowing hard down here. The entire bay system in this area is muddied up and has caused a lot of anglers to stay at home. Heat index tomorrow here between 108*-110*....from 10am-about 9pm

fishing is usually good between 8pm till about 10am. otherwise its hot and the fish are holding in deeper, cooler waters.

try one of the lighted piers such as Sea Wolf park, or on the Seawall there are 61 street pier and Gulf Coast pier around 89th/90th street.

early morning like 6am you can try the rock groins between the Pleasure Pier (25th street) and 61st st. or go further east to the Jetty.

you can ride the ferry across to Bolivar.

all the way to the West of Galv Island is San Luis Pass, but you'll most likely need 4wd/awd.

The surf and the piers are not good at the moment with the strong winds, but if you really want to fish you could hit the back side of San Luis Pass. The is a neighborhood near there and you can park on the street and it has easy access to the bay. You could also pay a few bucks and go to the bay side of Galveston Island State Park. The downside to this is they dont open at the crack of dawn. Any soft plastic bass worms will catch fish. Rig it Texas style and give it a try.

Fish have been biting in the surf, but not many reports. Take your cast net, we were there right before 4th and were catching 9-12 ct shrimps in castnet in knee deep dirty water. And the surf was loaded with nice crabs too, keeps the kiddos busy, they all like the cast net, never know what comes up!!
