I am headed to Lake Calcasieu next week with a group of guys and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on artificial baits that will get the reds to bite?
We are going to do a lot of live bait fishing, but would love to catch a red on a topwater??
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
PM me to let me know how it was!

When I fish tops on Big lake I like the black Chartreuse she dog. I think the hi pitch rattle is key when fishing super soft bottoms.
When fishing soft plastics I am partial to my Controlled Descent Paddle Shad. You can rig one on a jig and put a big rattle in the cavity and wake up the reds. if you find yourself fishing shallow rig it weedless with the foam and and a rattle with a little pinch weight and hold on!
Good Luck!
If you order some before the post office closes today you should have them by Friday! Put your user name in the comment box and I'll throw in a few not yet released Jerk Shad for you to try.

Big Thanks
What color Paddle Shads would you suggest? What size jig would you rig them on?
I will make my order today!

My favorite is White, but the LA guys swear by LSU (plum/purple/Chartreuse)
Jighead will depend on water depth, wind etc. but 1/4 should serve you well all around.

I also like a screw lock jighead.

I fish the Calcasieu river at night aton. Ive always had good luck with reds on the bottom just tossing a speckled trout patterned cahoe minnow (made by H&H). Not sure about topwater.
