Pretty much a two part question here.
1. When you guys repack the trailer bearings on your trailer, what kind of grease do you use? Do you use standard wheel bearing grease or do you use marine grease?
2. With that said, I have buddy bearings so after a while from repacking the bearings, and its time to load up the buddy bearings, do you use the same grease as you packed with?

I have a tube of marine grease in the grease gun but it is not as course or thick as the bearing grease I have used on my truck. I just don't know if that would be good to pack the bearings with, that's why I ask the pros on here.

I'm not pro but I do pack my bearings with marine grease and keep my grease gun loaded with a tube of the same.

I use regular bearing grease on my boat trailer and my utility trailer. Utility trailer I pull the hubs and repack. I have had the boat trailer 30 years and it has buddy bearings. I normally do things by the book and do the required maintenance. On the boat trailer I decided long ago that I am just going to hit the buddy bearings when they need it. I know a lot of people will say this is wrong but it has worked for me for 30 years. Now and then I have to suppress the urge to pull the hubs.

Everybody has an answer on how to grease bearing buddies. If you want the correct way, go to BassCatBoats Owners forum and pull up the frequently asked question section. Do a search if needed. Stump jumper in 30 years you must be doing something right. I know guys that double squirt each hub every time they dunk a wheel. Then wonder why they have that grey liquid mess.

I pull the cap off and remove any old grease and give it a couple squirts before each trip. Haven't had a problem as of yet and it's going on 16 years.

Make sure if you mix grease that they are compatible. If the soaping characteristics are different it will spell trouble. Before I got a trailer with Vault Hubs, I added grease to the buddy when it was low. Once per year I would disassemble and inspect and repack. I never lost a hub. I also jacked the trailer up every now and then and grabbed the wheel and checked to see how much play it had. If it was excessive, I would adjust the bearings. I do the same on my utility and cattle trailers with the exception of greasing the buddy since they don't have them.
