Does anyone know if insurance companies pay for transom issues do to I'm guessing rot? It cracked at the lake Thursday. I didn't hit anything, and don't wish to lie to them and say I did.

insurance is made for accidental damage not normal repairs. how old is your boat?

if it was caused from impact they should. But they have been getting alot more pressure to not cover even impact issues.

No. If it is bad rot and you struck something, I think that they might argue that it was the rot that caused the damage. Boat probably isn't worth paying for a new transom to be installed. I'd look into a pourable transom. I did one on my last boat and it wasn't that hard, cost was about $400 and it was as strong or stronger than new.

Of course, I'd call the insurance and see what they say. You never know, you might get lucky.

Says who???

If the rest of the boat is solid...why not fix it? You seen the prices on used boats lately?

Does the transom flex? Brown goo coming out of any bolt holes? Where did it crack?

Well, could say you since you were on a few months ago going on about how many Champions, Rangers and bass cats you had found for $3000. Unless it is a big Champion in great shape, a pourable transom repair makes much more sense.

I re-did my Old Skeeter transom with a liquid product called, (SEACAST). After it was cured, the transom is stronger than the day the boat was made. Good Stuff!!!

I agree w the pourable.

It is what it is in finding the boats. Dont know what to tell ya..Didnt "go on" bout finding boats. I said we found quite a few. Still seeing them. Not sure what the big deal is w that...

Btw..buddy bought a 370 Ranger w 150 Merc. Hds5. Hyd steering. New tires. 3 new batteries for 3200. Very nice solid boat. He has put prob 30 hours on it. Towed it to Table Rock last weekend. No issues..They are out there...

If the loss is greater than the value of the boat (assuming the policy is not liability only), the insurance company could total the boat, and at that point the boat belongs to the insurance company at which you'd have an opportunity but with no guarantee to re-purchase it from them.

My buddy has a 86 Champion, 89 Evinrude 175, garage kept. New carpet, new tires, and more for $5000 firm. This boat is clean and well kept.
