I have a little 5 acre pond that is producing some nice bass. Hear are a few pics. I started a management program last year to further improve the population.

I had Overtons Fisheries and an A&M biologist come out and do the Electrofishing survey. It was very interesting. All the fish shocked to the surface were put into a live well to be measured and weighed. Based on the survey results I was given a report showing the quality of my fish compared to other Texas ponds/lakes. They also suggested what I could do to improve the quality of my bass.

Here are some excerpts from the electro-fishing survey I had done.

Fish Delivery Day......

To supplement the diet of the Large Mouth Bass in my pond Overton Fisheries added some Coppernose Bluegill, some Tilapia and Red Eared Sunfish.

The Coppernose Bluegill reproduce rapidly(10,000-60,000 eggs per spawn), readily eat pelletized feed and grow 1-2 pounds. They are a great food source for the bass.

The Tilapia spawn every 3-4 weeks and the young take the stress off the Bluegills as bass forage upon them. They also eat algae which I have an over abundance of right now.

Finally we added 1000 Redear Sunfish to help break the cycle of the parasites that were observed on some of the bass when we did the electrofishing survey.

They anesthetize the fish with clove oil to keep them calm while in the live well so they didn't jump out. It only takes a very small amount to do the job(about 3-4 drops per 5gals).

Walla......calm/anesthetized fish. The fish came out of their stooper about 5 minutes after being released back into the pond.
