Just purchased a Redington 2wt fly rod. Going to my creek spot on Lake Ray Roberts in the morning. Hopefully I'll put some fish in the boat.

Well I learned a lot on my first trip out fly fishing. Had several fish hit the fly but only one hook up. The creek was about 1.5' down since last Monday and we couldn't get the boat past a shallow area to get to our spots. Kids still caught a few bass and sandies with a few sunnies to fi othe day off. I have tons to learn about casting and presentation of the fly. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Love learning and trying new fishing techniques. Any pointers on what flies to use and size? Again I have a 7.5' 2wt

It's best to learn by throwing top water poppers like Betts Fancy poppers or Boogle bugs. For subsurface flies I prefer to use Briminators.

Keep the rod down on the water, the line tight and strip set the hook immediately upon feeling or seeing the bite. Welcome to the addiction.

I always look at my line when fly fishing. Many times you won't feel the strike when a fish eats coming towards your fly but doesn't turn.

Hook sets are free....

As far as flies, start with small stuff (beadheads) and you will get more eats. The fish may be smaller but it's a good way to work on your technique to feel when to set. I normally "trout" set for gills so I don't pull the fly out of their mouth.

Went yesterday evening and caught about 30 in the last 30-45 minutes of light. It was a mix bag of bluegills, greens, and small bass. What a blast on a 2wt! All caught on a white foam spider. I just had to go back this evening and had just as much fun. Caught small bass, a crappie, and a load of gills.

The addiction has taken hold. You need an intervention or you'll end up like me with 5 rods in the truck and staring out the window at every water hole you pass by, instead of paying attention to the road. roflmao
