I fished Bastrop for the first time yesterday. Put in at the South Shore ramp. A bit of a struggle to pull the boat out on the slick ramp, but not too bad. Someone told me to try the North Shore ramp next time.
Anyway - I didn't go far in the morning - over to the intake side of the power plant and fished some grass with a frog. Not a single bite. Noticed the water temp was 88.4 degrees at 7am, and everyone was pulled out far from the shoreline. Looked like everyone was dragging Carolina Rigs, which I hate to do, but might have to resort to if this keeps up.
Being of the mindset that there are always "some fish" that will be up shallow, I beat the shoreline for a while. I kept looking out at everyone fishing further out, and never saw one person pull in a fish. Lots of moving around out there. I managed to pick up two small ones on a small swimbait - one on the edge of a grass bed down by the intake side, and one off of some wood over by the Scout area. One other one took a swipe at my topwater frog, but he missed it completely. He never came back at it. But that was it. No other taps, swipes, swirls, etc...
We pulled out and fished some deeper channels, following them back into pockets from the main lake. Lots of good looking structure down there, but nothing was biting. We threw spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Texas rigged worms, yoyo'd lipless crankbaits, shaky heads, swimbaits, and a jig, but nothing was biting.
At a little after noon, the water surface temp was 93.4. Saw quite a few people leaving. Talked to a few that said the bite was tough.
Any suggestions on such a day, or is Carolina Rigging about my best bet?
All the best, Glenn

You could try the dam. Either a lipless or a squarebill early then a 3XD or a 5XD later. There is some grass by the dam to slow down and fish a plastic. T-Rig or a Senko.
