Just picked up new to me Bass Cat,gonna re-name Crappie Cat,but question is had some trouble hook'n up to ball and more of pain in the @#%%# gett' n loose from ball in the dark. HAD to PRY the piece that goes against ball.Took 15 20 min. guy told me ne never has trouble. We had some trouble getting it all way on ball at his house.

I would double check the size of the ball first. Also some WD40 if the ball is the correct size.

I use grease. Grease my coupler know and then. I had just greased it once and my mechanic grabbed the ball after we unhooked it. He gave me the WTF look.

?? never saw a hitch on a trailer adjustable for different ball sizes. Some can be tightened but still need a specific size ball. Ball size should be marked on the hitch.

Try adjusting the NUT underneath tongue latch....

Thanks Bronco & Jimye kinda strange checked his t ball, 2 in mine is 2in. so. Also noticed a small knob on opposite side from jack stand. IT says on tongue, for backup/ reverse onlyh, haven't clue he says don't either never uses it. W T F . Trailer has tandem axle w/ brakes.

that is the brake release for the trailer brakes when backing

mine doesn't have the release.... sound was probably your brake shoes rubbing, or springs popping and tires scrubbing as brakes locked up while backing.
Use the release if backing uphill or against a curb, that will keep the brakes from engaging

I have trouble with mine also. My key is to just get it coming off the hitch and then step on the back bumper of the truck to break it loose.
I do have somewhat of a rise where I park my boat that does not help.
