Head there next week for four days. Suggestions on where to try to catch a few? Thanks in advance.

So I'm guessing that I should look elsewhere to catch a trout or two?

Lots of rivers nearby. How far you willing to travel from Bayfield?

You are only about 16 miles from Durango where there is lots of fishing. Duranglers Fly Shop has been helpful to me in the past. Near Bayfield is the Vallecito Reservoir and the Los Pinos River. Around the reservoir are many developed campgrounds, motels and campgrounds, it a beautiful area.

Around Durango is the Animas River, Doloris River, Piedra River, Hermosa Creek, and the Vallecito Reservoir in Byafield. You should have no trouble finding places to fish near Bayfield.

Additionally, you are about an hour away from the San Juan river in New Mexico.

You may not get any work done once you get there!!

Head to the San Juan...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I'd agree with Jimlakeside and kody's papa. Navajo Dam (San Juan River) is not far away and is a Great stretch to fish.
