I had some reels cleaned at recently and they weren't clean on the outside. So this makes me think the inside isn't clean either. Do any of you think that a reel could be properly cleaned on the inside and not on the outside?

Absolutely.

Couldn't care less about the outside, I'm paying for the inside. thumb

Outside is pretty much cosmetic, inside is functionality. Just like a car, the outside may look nice but the parts could be junk.

Take the side off one and see if it looks clean.

I completely tore down two of the reels and they were cleaner than when I took them. But they were not clean. I have cleaned probably fifty of my reels over the years and I have all the proper equipment and knowledge to do it right. It absolutely blows my mind that somebody would not expect the outside to be as clean as the inside. I took the bearings out and put them in small ziploc bags full of simple green. After this they solution was very dirty. I'm taking the other two to a pro reel cleaner that I trust to clean. I'm sure he is gonna be as surprised as I at how dirty these reels still are. And it literally took me no more than two minutes to clean the outside of the reel.
