Basically used up all the removable split shot in my shot selector so I was in the market for another shot assortment. I decided to pick up the lead free assortment from Bass Pro on a whim. The first thing I noticed is that they lock on and release a lot more cleanly than the lead. The next thing I noticed is that for the same size the tin weigh less than the the lead. Looking back I guess this should have been fairly obvious, but I thought at the time the shot was so small that there would be no discernible difference. I was wrong. To get about the same weight you have to use one size up in tin compared to the lead. And also the tin is much more reflective than the lead and stays more reflective.

The weight difference is easy enough to get used to and the reflective tin seems to be a plus at times but not at others. When it seems to be a negative I just color the shot with a black Sharpie. Doesn't cover it all the way, but enough. Just wanted to share my experience with the rest of my fellow sunfish anglers.

I like them both. I use the lead more due to the fact that they are a little less expensive and the size I use is more available at the tackle stores I use. I agree that the tin do lock onto the line better than the led but for me that does not cause any problems.

Good topic. Be careful with the tin though. It does lock on the line tighter but I've noticed it frays the line a little quicker, especially flourocarbon. I just like the leads slightly smaller profile and price, lol
