I've read those things religiously since I was a kid. Sometimes they're spot on, sometimes they're not. I'm not questioning the validity of them, just curious where they get the reports. Anybody know?

I was told by TP&W they come from marinas, guides, and local fishermen that send them in.

All I know is that lake Brownwood is the best fishing lake in the state from the reports I have looked at for years roflmao

I believe the reports are from those who benefit from good fishing the most.

Pretty much what I think too.

If you operated a marina or were a guide, wouldn't you want it to appear as fishing is outstanding?

I've often wondered the same thing as they are completely bogus most of the time. Or they're so generic that they really don't mean anything.

I have been asked to do fishing reports for several publications. Only problem with it is you have to give them the report thirty days in advance. That's why they seem bogus sometimes.

I've read where if none given then they've used years prior.

I did the reports from Ray Roberts for several years. Our own JP Greeson would call every week and get a report. Wasn't always good reports but factual. Don't know that JP still compiles them but he used to.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

I tend to get my fishing reports from these forums which are pretty accurate and in real time.
If you don't see a report on your lake you can usually ask and someone will chime in.
I stopped reading fishing reports posted in publications and on public sites because they are mostly generic and weeks old.

Just one more cast!

I think they come from a spoon manufacturer because everyone I read says fish are biting on spoons....... The only spoons I have any luck with is in the kitchen drawer.

I don't even look at them any more. I always got frustrated at how generic they are. "bass good on worms", "crapping good on minnows", "stripers good on live bait".......
