Going to be in northern Arkansas early next week and will spend one morning fishing Rim Shoals on the White River. Any suggestions as to flies or what holes might be good? I'll also spend a day fishing the Elk River across the border in Missouri for smallmouth with my Rogers-based fishing buddy. Really looking forward to this trip.

I've never fished Rim Shoals specifically, but I do make it out to to Arkansas several times a year to fish the white/norfork. Right now it's mostly a midge game. Root beer and ruby midges are popular, as well as zebra midges in various colors. Size 18-20 fished in 5 or 6x. Smaller pheasant tails are also effective. I think the hopper bite is probably getting started as well. If you've never fished the White or Norfork before it might be wise to either hire a guide or have a backup plan. Make sure you check generation schedules as you need minimum flow on either river if you're gonna wade. I think the Norfork has had some wadeable flows lately though. If you get there and they're generating, it's tough to wade fish. The nice thing is Crooked Creek is close to that area and it's one of the top smallmouth rivers in the country.

Thanks, Dain. I will be fishing in the morning and if they run the generators like they have over the past week (during the afternoon and early evening), and accounting for 6-8 hours of travel time for the water from the dam to Rim Shoals, the wading conditions should be fine. I will check the web site before I drive to the shoals however, just to confirm. Backup plan will be to go to Wildcat Shoals.
