Has anyone ever come up with a DIY idea to get the built in ice chest to hold ice longer.?
I have a 94 champion and in the summer I have to take along a ice chest so i can have cold drinks all day.
I just don't like the room the ice chest takes up, so any Ideas?
Thanks

I went to Home Depot and got a sheet of insulation, cut it to fit the bottom( cut out for the drain) the sides and top. Used the silver air conditioning tape on all seams. It will now keep ice all day. It uses up some room but it works.

Same problem in my champion. I'm liking at the rtic soft sided cooler to throw under the 2nd console but also thinking about in the ice chest also.

I thought about putting insulation in the chest as mentioned but wasn't sure how well that worked. I may try that first.

If it is like mine, the lid is a seat and has no insulation. I think insulating that and making it seal might have a dramatic effect.

I was out the other night and used my old cooler that I know will hold ice for a couple of days. The wind blew the lid up where it wasn't sealed and I lost almost a bag of ice in 30 minutes so I'm not apprised on the built in for that reason alone

Ice chest lids are notoriously poorly insulated and lose their cool. If you can't add insulation, you can make a "blanket" out of the silver bubble wrap that people use to insulate their airplane and RV windows. Wal-Mart sells small ones for your vehicle windshield, or a good hardware store often sells it off a roll by the foot. You can cut a blanket the size of the interior of your ice chest and lay it over your ice and cold contents. Two thicknesses taped together will be stiffer and double the insulation quality. It's a pain to have to move it every time you have to get in the chest, but it will help preserve your ice, it's cheap, and you don't have to modify your boat at all. The other thing you can do is keep the sunshine off the chest some way, from a wet towel to an umbrella.

Not having ice sucks! I sailed from Galveston to the Caribbean and back one year without ice. Not fun.

I took self adhesive foam insulation and outlined cooler under seat to help make a better seal
