As the water level goes down (roughly 6 inches per day) im going to try and target my tasty little friends in 16-20 ft of water. Belton lake is still 23 ft. high as of today so there are many more places for crappie to hide. Any thoughts on live bait vs jigs in deeper water? Fishing report still shows everything being slow right now, but I think that's due to lack of people fishing lately.

Honestly, I would have both on board for Belton. I took a guy fishing a few years ago there and we could not buy a bite on jigs...tried 10 different colors and patterns for the first hour. He wanted to jig fish, but I did have some minnows on board from a previous outing. After fishing this deep water honey hole spot for 10 minutes with no bites, I pulled out a minnow and caught one instantly. Seeing as he wanted to jig fish, I tried to find a jig match. We put on Crème Lil fishies and it was on. Caught 60+ over the next hour and a half. Belton fish can be very finicky. The rising and falling water for the last several years has not helped. My last trip out in late August of last year produced exactly 4 keepers for four of us over five hours. Traditionally, we should have had about 60-75 given the conditions and spots we hit.
