Or, try it both ways and decide which way is easier for you to clean them, and which way you think they are the best way to eat. Sometimes, I will scale the smaller fish and fillet the larger ones.

I like the skin, so I do both...1st scale them, then fillet them from what I learned on a video on how to fillet these guys. The video was posted on the Forum maybe a year ago...

scale, gut, heads off, fry em up. The fish taste amazing with the bones in. Granted.. eat slowly...but there's no better way to eat sunnies and bluegills than corn on the cob style. wink

I fillet all my fish. I do not target sunfish but if I did I would probably scale them.

Side Note: I mainly fish for Catfish,Strippers,White Bass, and Crappie!

Sunfish are best with bones and super easy to eat. Bigger fish get filleted. Crappie either way.

Hi herron.
I filet almost all my sunfish. I love the crispy little filets they make and are perfect for sandwiches or tacos

Probably scale, gut and fry. Otherwise you lose out on the tail.

Well I guess you could fillet and still fry the tail. Just sounds like a lot of work.
