Would you spend 100 bucks on a cast net? I was reading some catfishing websites and I see a lot of them talking about bait buster cast nets. They are 100$ for a 6 foot 1/5 inch mesh though!

I like the swivel head with easily repairable braille lines.

Anyone own one? Would you pay that much for a cast net?

I buy the old salt nets from bass pro and they're pretty expensive, but I can get gear guard for $8 that way when I tear it up (I say when not if because we tear them all eventually), I get a new one because it's insured. I wouldn't pay $100 for a cast net if I couldnot insure it.

Bass Pro gear guard is the only way I buy expensive cast nets. I've exchanged five or six nets now.

I use the Betts Super Pro from Bass Pro. The biggest benefit from higher cost nets is the amount of weight per foot. With most net makers the more weight per foot the higher the cost. That's is what really matters for the net to drop faster and catch more bait per cast.

Unfortunately they do not offer the gear guard on any of the taped nets.

I wouldn't purchase a net under 7'
I wish they'd change that law.. although, I've never seen a GW check net size either lol

Not really , IMO. I throw a 7' net from the bank too, not just from my boat.

I have my first one on the way. It's a 4' with tape. I will be ashore looking for bait.

Gear guard is the only way to go it you use your net a lot. If you only fish a couple times a month it's no big deal. I fish 2-3 days a week for my ministry and I also cast from the bank for now. So I go through a castnet every 2-3 months. I do suggest a 5-6 ft net minimum if you have that much room where you use it. You will catch a ton more bait faster, and larger shad are fast enough to avoid a small net and I use the largest I can get my hands on.

Agreed. It is all personal opinion though. I sometimes take a small watercraft to odd areas and carrying around a big cast net isn't ideal for me at least. Biggest I go is 5 ft. but thats just because I don't want a ton of extra weight to drag around the banks.
