Its time to re-string the ole' cat reels. I've been running 25lb team catfish mono, but I was thinking of switching to a braid. The mono has worked just fine, but is the braid better? What do you think?

Braid has it's place and if you are fishing in lots of brush, roots, and underwater structure you may very well learn to like it. The other option is to become known as "tie and retie" or oh snap I need another hook, leader, swivel, and sinker. Not all braid is created equal and some is better for casting and holding it's shape compared to the others. Yes, I prefer mono for open water fishing but I keep a number of rods strung up with Texas Tuff for creek fishing, along with shallow water in heavy grass, roots, and brush. Braid has become a lot more popular as more line companies have seen the need and started to import it. If you are satisfied with the Team Catfish mono why change what is working?

Good point about if it ain't broke don't fix it. Just thought if I WAS going to switch, now would be a good time.

tried everything under the moon over the last 30 yrs and always go back to my trusty 25lb big game in solar collector green...i miss more fish on braid if I don't watch it like a hawk. Tangled rigs are more difficult to untangle with braid..fishing line is cheap...try it and see if you like it...I bet you stay with mono

All my reels have braid. Can't stand the memory of mono.
He is truly a sick individual.

making the switch yrs ago was hard and I was stubborn I finally came to my senses and went all braid.. man I am glad I did... lot more pulling power and it doesn't sink like mono or stretch like mono...I use Team catfish tug - of war 65 & 80lb I will not go back to mono
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

I switched to braid several years ago and I love it. No memory, and the stuff holds up and doesn't get stiff and brittle like mono. When my braid starts to fray I just peel off the line, cut, and then retie. I've also reversed it onto another reel where the line that was once at the bottom of the reel ends up on the top of another reel. Saves some $$. Only mono I carry is a small spool for leader material. Maybe it's just me, but mono has always been a pain to deal with as it doesn't hold up well in the south Texas heat.

Cabelas yellow RipCord 35 to 65 lb on my spinners and Cajun 14 lb mono on my bait casters. I like braid for fishing trees and brush so I can drag em out quick without breaking. Mono for open water.
All braids are not created equal. I hate spider wire.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!
