I use 30 big game solar collector because I fish in below freezing temps and the braid becomes brittle when it freezes. It will break when you cast or set the hook.

Nick buddy, any line will break easier if it's frozen pardner. Just don't forget and leave your drag cranked down... I've left my drag cranked down tight after a fish fight or from getting a rig unstuck and I forgot to back the drag back off. I've had toads bust new 65 pound power pro like it was nothing from above and below freezing temps. Reguardless, working the drag from start to finish is important no matter what line you use.

I break it casting 2 oz weights. Has nothing to do with drag. My reels only have 14 lbs of drag.

Once you go braid you never go back. I have reels that have the same braid on them for 5 yrs. I fish a lot too. Never broke one off casting,or had it break from freezing temps. But to each his own.

I don't even want to know how much it would cost to spool 20 6500's with braid.

I'm a high plains drifter...I've never had a big problem breaking off big blues with mono..never caught one close to 71 though Prime, that's a dream fish ...I keep my drag set and catch 50s no problemo on Lewisville ....splash the 121 lb state record blue was caught on 20lb mono and the world record 144 lb blue was caught on 30 lb big game and an ugly stick..you can still catch big fish on mono

And the fisherman that caught Splash won't even touch 20lb mono no more... Not sure about the other fella.

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers Prime..I'm sure I could stand to learn quite a bit from you. You are obviously a hell of a catfisherman...I'm just stuck in my ways after using mono for so long plus I drift so I like the stretch...All of my big cat buddies still use mono today with good success. Whatever gets em in the boat.

I believe you can land pretty much anything on 20-30lb mono. I don't like braid, I don't like the feel, I don't like the fact that it cuts my fingers, I don't like the cost. I've seen plenty of 60-70lb cats landed on 30 lb mono.

I went on a few trips with the Salsa's. Michael boated some absolute MONSTERS on mono.
I've haven't any big problems with breaks with mono. However I am a bank fisher so I wonder if it wouldn't be more durable with the rocks and logs and such.
