My outboard has been having troubles recently. It's a 72' two stroke johnson 50hp. It is bogging down and running about 8mph at full throttle. If you drop the throttle below 1/2 it'll just die and won't start again unless you use starter fluid. Which I try not to do...I'm looking for a trustworthy, LEO friendly boat mechanic that isn't going to bend me over backwards lol. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks guys!

Sounds like the carbs to me.
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, he'll be gone every weekend.

rebuild carbs...problem solved. your floats are bad or your needles have issues. do the gaskets while your in there. fuel filters as well. plugs. then your good.
i imagine it is also hard starting and smoking like #$!!

I would also upgrade the fuel lines, ethanol destroys the old rubber hoses
