Due to some recommendations on this forum I am going to be spending a little time fishing on Lady Bird Lake this upcoming weekend with the wife.


I've read it is trolling motor only, so I guess I can push the boat off by hand then troll all over the place from the ramp? Also, any tips for spots or techniques I should be focusing in on?


Also, and quite possibly more important, I need a few suggestions on what to rig the wife up with to keep her happy. She wants to catch bass but double threat lures that bring in crappie are a huge plus. She will NOT use anything that requires more than a straight cast and retrieve, no stop and go or twitching the rod tip. She can actually cast quite far and accurately (spinning rod only so far). Her #1 lure right now is an inline mepps spinner. I am thinking a 1/2oz biffle swinging head she can just cast and slowly drag back for finesse/weedless and possibly wopper plopper for topwater (she doesn't like her frog too much and buzzbait didn't work out too well either). I think a little swimbait might work pretty well too. Any other suggestions?

Short Light C-Rig
- 1/16 oz. weigth
- 15 in. leader
- #2 wide gap hook
- Hag Tornado 4.5 inch in Watermelon/Chart. Pepper laminate
- Air Tail with no rattle.
- Fish it really slow back to the boat.

Sassy Shad type swim baits
- 3.5 inches in White/peral
- 1/8 oz. weedless jig head
- Can clip that jig head on a H&H Spinner for some flash

Light Drop Shot Rig
- 1/4 oz. weight
- 1.0 wide gap or circle hook
- Zoom Watermelon Fineness Worm
- Cast it out drag back slowly with high rod tip.

Go really early. On weekends you can walk across the kayaks and SUPs. They pack in lbl since no big motors allowed.

I'd stick to flukes and senkos, trig's under the overhanging cypress trees. Not sure of the grass situation. Its usually matted by now everywhere but the floods did a number on that.

A fluke in the smoke color will work really well. Also, a watermelon red, black/blue, or green pumpkin senko will work well too. I always like to Tx rig my senko weightless, but there are a lot of guys who like to wacky rig them out there. If she wants to pull double duty, a Rooster Tail or a Beetle Spin will work out there.

Not much grass at all right now. Normally its matted this time of year but like someone said...flooding messed it up.

Not many crappie in the lake but there are quite a few white bass and big bluegill which will eat an inline spinner easily.

You can find some schooling action on the east side of the lake right now near the dam. Look for hard bottom areas. If you go west toward barton creek, go early because it will be packed. That area gets a TON of fishing pressure too.

2"-3" Storm swimbait in bluegill, that's what I have my mom throw on the ole Zebco special when she come with me. In my experience it's a multi species bait, that can catch quality bass. Plus they're cheap, so loosing them isn't a big deal.

Anyone know how those ramps are? I plan to go friday and/or monday instead of the weekend but is the ramp decent enough for launching a boat? Also, I only saw about 6 parking spots on google maps, how quickly do those fill on the weekdays or what other parking with trailer options are around?

The best ramp to launch a bass boat at is the one just west of I-35. I have a 21' Skeeter and launch it there no problem. You are correct about the parking though, it is very limited. Mostly street parking with a couple of spots under the bridge that are long enough for a truck and trailer.
