That ^^^ and to know Lake Fork is not wide open but full of flooded timber. Bad accident for sure. I have seen several people in the last few weeks just running through timber areas like it was nothing. I could not idle through these places but yet they blew through them not knowing. Very Lucky IMO.

Story makes it sound like the boat may have bow hooked. Anyone seems the names released yet?

When will the great State of Texas finally come to the realization the unmarked waterways are some of the most dangerous things we can encounter. Look at Toledo Bend. You don't have to have ever been on the lake before and can safely get from the dam to Logansport and up any of the major tributaries because of the marked boat lanes. The state has continuously turned a blind eye to the situation. Official responses I have gotten from TP&W and state Senators or "Control of the lakes belong to the water governing bodies and do not belong to the state". When I replied to them, "Then why do I have to have a Texas Boat Certification on my boat to use these waters and why do State Game wardens patrol these waters if the belong to a Water Board". Amazingly- none has ever replied back. They wouldn't dream of letting people drive 65-70 miles an hour on the highway without sides, marked lanes and traffic control.
The Texas Legislature is killing people every year by allowing this to exist.

Ummm...... Fork boat lanes are clearly marked just like Toledo Bend. But just like TB some people do not pay attention to the buoys.

The Texas Legislature is killing people every year by allowing this to exist. I believe this is the dumbest thing I have ever read on here. The boat lanes are marked on Fork, the problem is people like to run areas that are not marked and then complain about no buoys being there. Their is a reason their are no buoys there because their is Danger there, run at your own risk. They did not remove the trees in most of the lake and the buoys were put in places that when the lake is full you should be able to run ok. When the lake gets low you can be at risk even in the areas that have buoys. The Government can not and should not be responsible for people doing dumb stuff. You chose to go to lakes that had trees in them before water was put in behind the dam, if you can afford a boat to go to theses lakes you should be smart enough to slow down when in timber on that lake. You shouldn't blame the government or any one else for your lack of common sense. The state of Texas does a great job trying to help us be safe. just my .02

Haven't been on the lake this year, but last 2 times I was on the Lake there were no buoys above the 2946 bridge and there were only 2 buoys at the mouth of Brushy Branch with nothing above the 514 bridge. Again-I quit going to the lake when it came up from the droughts because you couldn't SEE the cleared areas, and if you didn't know where to run you had to idle.
Hopefully this has changed as you mentioned, But there are many other lakes where this is not true- Richland Chambers, Palestine, Sam Rayburn, the list goes on and on.

Once again this is just not true, 2946 has buoys all the way up. You can go about another three or four miles, or as far as you can in Garrett and Lake Fork creek. I bet their are another 25-30 buoys above 2946 or they have been their since 2009 when I started fishing Lake Fork. Their are buoys above 514 all the way to the first power line and same thing since 2009.

Again, I will take your word for it. But this is not the case on most Texas lakes.

Have you ever been on a toll road, county road, dirt farm road, gravel road, private road, park road, city street? The state doesn't own those, and takes no responsibility for pot holes, downed trees, etc. yet you have to have a license plate to drive on them and troopers can and will stop someone for speeding...
Same thing!
Lakes are under the authority of the local or governmental (quasi-governmental) entity that manages them. They can create "safe" passages if they wish. There is no fiduciary duty to do so. Each person takes the risk of boating, just like the risk of driving on unimproved roads.
