Hey folks, I come today, seeking your advise.

I have a 14 foot jon boat with a '71 18 hp motor. My problem is because the boat is small (or i have no power trim) when I go to beach the boat, I have to tilt the motor up with a board I made underneath it, to prevent the bottom from hitting the ground. This is very difficult to do, because of the placement of the board on the motor as well as being inside the boat. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to help get the motor tilted up with out having to put a board underneath the outside of the motor, from inside the boat? (I hope this makes sense?)

Work much better. I used one for my 70hp until I got tilt and trim. I've got one off those that I'll make you a deal on if you are in the dfw area

It should have a tilt lock. My 68 Evenrude had one. It was a knurled knob on the side of the motor. It was pulled out to tun and then tile the motor up and push it in.

I think he is talking about the leverage for actually tilting it. If so, one of the bars mentioned will give him more leverage. My motor was heavier but there were a couple of times that I almost fell out trying to grab the back to tilt it. I can imagine the board he is talking about, lifting from lower on the motor being difficult to power up even a smaller motor

Oh, OK I never had a motor that had a handle to tilt it. Always had to grab the cowling on the back and pull it up.
