When replacing the water pump housing, impeller, and associated gaskets from the repair kit...should you use any type sealer on the gaskets themselves? same question with new thermostats. Any sealer on the rubber grommet that surrounds the thermostat before insertion back into the head? Thanks in advance for the help....

No, none on the gaskets or the thermostat seals. You should see where there was a wall of sealer blocking the exhaust from the water pump, this needs to be replaced when you put it back together by building a dam of sealer that will contact the upper when put together. I use high heat silicone type sealer on mine....

Perfect reply!! Thank you Bronco. I thought I was on the right track with no sealer. And yes I built up the silicone on the divider plate. Thanks for your response..

How are you keeping the water pump housing and plate gasket in place? You have to use some kind of adhesive.

GM gasket adhesive. Best stuff I have ever found.

How are you keeping the water pump housing and plate gasket in place? confused a little here?.. sure ya thinkin' merc V6?.. might wanna revisit that... three studs plus two "tits" on tha base that keep everything in place... merc recommends a teflon lubricant only on tha drive shaft seals, o-ring and impeller....

You evidently have never had the impeller catch the gasket during an impeller install, I have years ago and then you get to do it all again. Mercury also says to replace all of the gaskets and use a non-mineral base lubricant. Where does his post say a 2.4 or 2.5 Merc?
