Anyone have any experiences(good or bad) being a marshal for BASS Elite series tournaments?

Yes, I did it once in 2013 and rode 3 days. Day 1 with Rick Clunn, day 2 with Randy Howell, and day 3 with Matt Reed. Enjoyed the overall experience but getting too old for those long boat rides.

I did it for the BASSFest up on Texoma this year. Had a blast. Long, hot and tiring days, but it was still worth it. I do have more respect for passengers in a single console boat though.

I was a Marshal for the Elites at TB this year. Day 1 Andy Montgomery, Day 2 Bernie Schultz, Day 3 Mike Iaconelli. Great experience, learned a lot, and hurt all over for a week after. Highly recommend it if you are considering it. Pack a VERY small carry on bag with ONLY what you absolutely need. You probably won't get a dry box to stow your stuff so deal with it. When your pro calls you the night before ask them if you can bring anything, ice, water, snacks for the day. Be at the ramp early and ready to go when the pro gets there. Take and extra hat!

I rode at Toledo this year, Boyd Duckett, Luke Clausen, and Jeff Kreit. Awesome experience and I will do it again. nwest10 covered it. For me it was a little tenuous as I had back surgery after this on June 10th. But I was not going to miss it. Duckett and Kreit drove the hell out of them big Tritons, Clausen never made any long runs. I have a whole new level of respect for those guys. And surprisingly enough, they have crappy days as well!

GIG'EM, you sign up on the BASSMASTER Website. They normally post the Elite schedule in the Fall of each year and you sign up then for the ones you're interested in.

Dead on the money. I've done it a handful of times and learned something every time. Most of the guys were awesome but you get a sour grape on occasion. I highly recommend it to anyone considering it. Do it on a lake you normally fish if at all possible.

After you sign up are you assigned a number, is there a waiting list or do they let you know asap so you can make arrangements. Sounds like something I need to do before I have to start wearing diapers, lol.

First you have to be a BASS member. They will put out the schedule and sign up will begin on a specific date. If you are signed up for email updates they will send you an email when the registration date will be. It costs $125 to sign up per event and you pay at sign up. You will either be confirmed at that time or put on waiting list. You will receive a confirmation email when you are confirmed for the event. After that there will be a package sent out to you by mail. You sign the application for the tournament and send it back to BASS. Be prepared to be at the location the day before the event for the marshals meeting and the first day pairings meeting. Next day be at the ramp or where you have agreed with your pro to meet. Have fun, hang on, and stay out of the way! I had three great guys who didn't hesitate to talk to me all day and answered any question I asked. It was a blast! As a Marshal you have full access back stage to meet and talk with any of the guys. It's well worth the $125 for the experience. Good luck!

Thanks nwest for the info, I know now what I need to do. I won't travel to NY or CA. but anywhere in the southeast would be great. I've met a few of them and they were quite friendly, of course most fishermen are.
Thanks for the help.

Worth it. Even if it's weird to ride around all day and not fish. Rode on the CA delta years back with Dave Wolak and Bernie Shultz. Dave is the man. He was in 2nd after that day. Bernie had a tough day, hit a sneaker wave coming off a barge and nearly launched me out of the boat. Had one bite the whole day and ran ridiculous distance. It's all just fishing. The way these guys do it they just do it at a much faster pace.

Here's a good write up on a Marshall experience this year at bass fest.
