Robert Hunter is always texting me pictures of the trophy fish he catches. So I always send him pictures of my trophies. I was fishing in the spillway using my 8 weight rod to make long casts. I was drifting a bead chain clouser in 2450 cfs of flow. I felt the bite, set the hook and landed this fish. Now, you settle the dispute for me. Which takes more skill? To feel the bite and set the hook on an 8 lb. hybrid or a fish this size?
I have caught fish 1/4 that size on a #24 fly. I thought that it had been snagged when I first lifted it out of the water but upon closer inspection it was actually hooked in the mouth. I sent a pic to my buddies with the quote "anyone can catch big fish but it takes real skill to catch the small ones."
