I didn't know where to post this question - does anyone know where to buy block ice that would fit in a cooler in the Flower Mound/Lewisville area?

Thanks.

I have an ice machine for sale if you use a lot of ice. It's not block ice but will make 30 lbs in a day.

You can freeze your own block ice. I use a stainless steel mixing bowl. The block ice lasts all day in the fish box. Convenience stores used to have your choice of block ice or crushed ice. Not any more.

As an alternative, freeze several water bottles. Weeks great in the cooler and at the end of the day you can drink the 32deg water from the half melted bottle.

yep, the Tackle Box at Texoma was the last place that I have seen block. Not sure if they still have it or not. I use to use it when camping. I have plenty of freezer space and always have 6-8 gallon jugs frozen. I usually use milk jugs but you can also buy water in gallon jugs. I keep a bunch prefilled on top of the freezer. One comes out and one goes in. I use a lot during deer season. Some I will take my 3lb sledge to. Saves a lot of money on ice and the ice last longer. I keep the freezer at -10 so the ice is solid.

I use 1 gallon zip lock makes a nice block of ice. I have 2 in the freezer right now.

I use gallon jugs for my cooler. If I'm fishing in hot weather I'll freeze 3-4 water bottles to use to keep my live well temp down. When you get home just put them back in the freezer. I rarely have a need to keep fish alive any more so I usually throw the water bottles in the dry live well and throw my fish in there if I'm lucky enough to catch some keepers. Keeps me from having to take an extra cooler just for fish storage.

Yep, water bottles, 2 liter bottles and half gallon milk jugs are the ticket. I use the half gallon milk jugs in the cooler and throw the water bottles in the live well to keep it cool. When I get home I just throw everything back in the deep freeze and it's ready for the next trip.

I will also take my 3lb sledge to the frozen milk jug if I want some loose ice. Most of it will bust up into pretty good size pieces. Also the ice is much harder because it is coming out of my freezer at 10 below versus some barely below freezing ice box.

Ziploc bags, coke bottles, milk jugs, all good ideas. Back when I was a baseball umpire, I would freeze water in a pimento cheese container. It fits great inside of an igloo water jug, fyi

Folgers coffee cans are also great for block ice, dip bucket, storage container, minnow bucket, fillet bowl, urinal, endless uses on or around a boat, And a lot of us have them in a cabinet somewhere. I always have one in the boat. Milk jugs don't hold up long and are not fun to get crushed ice from. Coffee can you can chip out what you need.
