I currently have a motorguide with gator mount on my boat. I am looking at the Ulterra to replace it with. Anyone have any idea how difficult the change will be when installing. I dont expect any of the holes to line up and hate that but I am thinking that I can buy some hole caps or plugs and cover the holes. I am a little concerned about the difficulty I will have in mounting the trolling motor. My boat is an older Ranger, 1991 and I am not sure if the Ulterra will fit on the bow. Any heads up or suggestions of what to look out for is appreciated.

Well, I really wanted one of the Minnkota Ulteras but it appears that the transducer on them doesnt support the DI of the Lowrance. I was trying to find one with spot lock or whatever they call it where it will hold you in place. All of them have the slide down shaft so you cant mount your transducer on them and strap the cable to the shaft. Oh well.

You'll need to pull a couple of screw and remove the head but it is pretty easy. Put your cable in the slot and use a little silicone to hold it in place. What ff do you run? I'd go with xi5 but have been hearing of some issues people are starting to have with them and I run HB so MK makes sense to me to get the extra features

None of the built in transducers will support DI or SI.

If you have issue with the motor striking the bow roller when launching or loading we can set you up with the appropriate bracket to meet your needs. We can also assist you with the appropriate motor and installation needs as well. For those that have purchased or are in the market to make a purchase on a Minn Kota Terrova or MotorGuide XI5 Trolling Motor we at shut-up-and-fish endorse the following product. A close friend brainstormed and put together this mounting bracket that will save your motor and or trailer when launching, docking or loading. It is a great product and highly recommended. See links below. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions. The current unit shown is a prototype. The item is in final production and the finished product will be available very soon. This mount was created with the MotorGuide XI5 in mind but as stated above will work on all electric steer motors. http://www.liftsavertmmount.com/ [video:youtube] https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bsBI4SfdG6U[/video]

Well I decided to just go back with a cable drive and not hassle with the transducer for DI placement and everything. I am too much of a neat freak and could not figure out a good way to do the cabling.
