I've read numerous discussions regarding transducers and many arguments go both ways on LSS-1 vs LSS-2 and other options. To my surprise, I've heard many people state the LSS-1 provides a slightly better picture than the LSS-2.

My boat was recently upgraded with Gen III units...HDS-12 at the console and HDS-9 at the bow, networked. I have an HDI transducer on my TM along with a Structure Scan box connected to an LSS-1 transducer mounted at the transom both installed by the previous owner that had Gen II units.

I'm trying to determine my optimal set up given my current Gen III units. Do I keep the LSS-1 or should I upgrade to a new transducer to better utilize the technology in my Gen III units.

Anyway, I'm open to suggestions on how to optimize my set up and get the best performance/picture from the technology I have...BTW - this is strictly a freshwater/bass fishing set up just to be clear.

I also happen to have a new TotalScan Transducer in a box...if that's even worth considering in my set up.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I'm all ears on this one. I am also running LSS-1 on a Gen III. My structure scan picture quality is very good but could it be better? My 2D sonar seems lacking to me. I was on a surfacing school of sandies the other day and sonar didn't show them hardly at all even though I was catching almost every cast. Most were dinks but still should have showed up on sonar. I could easily see them on structure scan. Could be I don't know how to set it up sonar properly with the HST-WSBL transducer that came with the old Gen-I unit.

There's not enough difference between the lss1 & lss2 to worry about it. The Total-scans only practical purpose is for trolling motor & small boat applications. It won't work well on the transom of a bassboat.

Guys have claimed that the new 3d ducer side imaging (not the 3d part, it sucks) is the best; but I have yet to see any images that are any better than what my lss1 or lss2 gives me.

If I'm not mistaken the LSS-1 will not work properly with the Gen 3 unit

Yes it does. Image quality is much better and more detail than the old HDS-8 Gen1

After some thought I was considering mounting my TotalScan to my TM. Has anyone had experience with this set up?

I also have a 2D sonar transducer that is through the hull and I believe it to be part of the original set up on my Skeeter. I would estimate the 2D sonar to be over 5 years old....would replacing this transducer with a new unit provide any significant changes in the quality of the picture on my units?
