I'm going to be in Hot Springs Village for a week in July. I'd like to find out if anybody has fished that lake and get some pointers where to go.

Thanks...

Don

Beautiful lake. Born and raised in Hot Springs. Haven't fished in that lake for quite some time since moving to Texas. I still have family there so will pm you once I hear back.

We like to stay at the Shangra La in Mena. Right on a beautiful point. Good pie in the cafe. Looks like great bank fishing.

I scheduled a day with Wayne Crumpton (guide) back in the springtime, but the wind came up and we ended up canceling. I've heard he's pretty good though. They seem to be really big on striper fishing up there.

Yep they are real big on striper fishing....but I want to chase LMB....:) And man are they real proud of their stripers....it ain't cheap to catch them fish. Out of my budget limit. Never found an LMB guide so I'm going to wing it and see how I can do on my own. Topo maps are your friend...contour lines and all...:)
If I'm clever enough I can fish some of those golf courses around there like I do the one I work at here in Okie land...:) More than one way to skin a cat...

It was very clear and rocky while we were there. Lots of points and structure. Looks deep. Bounce a worm down a rock ledge and hold on.

Ummm, I think CAST means Mt. Ida where Mark Davis is from, not Mena. Mena is a ways from the lake, LOL.

I was just there 3 weeks ago and had a great time. Caught most of mine on a square bill (KVD sexy shad). Fished mostly in the area around crystal springs and mountain harbor

Throw a topwater. Then drag a worm through the grass when the sun gets up.

i was there about this time last year, my in-laws go every year and appear to be members of a geriatric sea-doo water bike gang or something and they convinced my wife and I to load up the kiddo and come out for a few days. Well, I wasn't about to go to the lake and not fish (none of them care about fishing) so i loaded up my pond hopper and we hit the road. We stayed at Echo Canyon (down by the dam) and I was catching schooling bass out off the end of the last boat slip of the marina on Chug-Bugs in 90 - 150 feet of water. I doubt that will help you, but you never know. There were lots of good looking areas i found during the whopping hour and a half that I was so fortunate to get to ride their beloved sea-doo. I just couldn't get very far in a 10 foot pond hopper powered only by a trolling motor...

Hugh is not in the game anymore from what I understand. David Cochran (FLW Pro George Cochran's son) I believe is still there and running alot of the trips that Hugh used to do.
