Pulling the boat to Lake Caddo next weekend and I am genuinely excited as I've never fished this lake before. From what I can tell, it is much different than most reservoirs. Does anyone have any pointers or advice on how to get on a largemouth bite?

You'll catch pike instead of bass. I'd minnow dunk between the cypress knees. There's a fish in every hole.

Cypress trees with pads or grass. Baby brush hog and weightless seiko, right at the base of the trees. Stay in the shade later in the day, but fish the scattered cypress in open water early. Whopper plopper will work early.

Better have a good GPS with you. Easy to get lost especially in the river. Been there done that.

Yep, GPS, bug spray, boat paddle to beat the cotton mouths off the boat and wouldn't hurt to take a flare or two. Make sure your cell is charged up and you know exactly where you are in case you call 911. Up the river there are street signs to help you know where you are. Have a good time and stay hydrated. It gets really hot amongst the Cypress.

I've had a lot of luck on a chatterbait out there during summer.

Well it is a natural lake but I'm wondering if the Corps has a handle on it. It's a wilderness, a gun might be handy.

You are way over thinking it. Just go fishing. It's not a desolate place where you areally all alone. There are stires, houses and marinas.

Man you can't believe half the post on TFF. I live 10 minutes from caddo and fish it regularly. The whole lake is marked and if you have a GPS and get lost there is something wrong. There is a arrow on the poles whichever side it points that is the side you run. Stay about 5-10 yards of the pole and you will be fine. If you aren't on a boat lane it is simple you IDLE. As far as a gun unless you always carry no reason to be paranoid. Most people are very friendly and can point you in the right direction.
