I am taking my 8 year old tomorrow (AM before it gets crazy) and need to make sure I can get into some sand bass so he has some fun. I have almost exclusively large mouth bass lures. Last year we caught some on chatter baits and a white zoom tube I rigged up.

I guess I need some small spoon type lures? Any help would be appreciated.

You need 1/2 or 3/4 Oz slabs, white and chartruse. Same color crappie jigs to tie on 1 foot above. 8 year old can use them vertical fishing easy and if you get on them, catch two at a time. I haven't been out in a while on Lewisville but you should find them on main lake humps. Look for birds for clues too.

I was out today first time in a few months. I used a Little George type lure. A white small crank bait with a rattle. Kastmaster Spoon. Small Popper. But if you see 20 boats just join in up wind and drift and use trolling motor. Do not use big motor if you can avoid it. The white bass and smaller hybrids were schooling and would hit anything. The school stayed on the surface for about 20 minutes.

I tagged along with a friend yesterday. We joined the boat show & landed 10-12 16" hybrids before that action stopped. It was slow after that. We did ok fishing the windy points. I observed one of the Lewisville regulars trolling the hell-pet and doing well. That may keep the youngster interested.

Thanks everyone! We went out on Sunday and it was super windy. He caught one sand bass on his first cast but nothing else. He was plenty happy about catching that one fish though.
