Was out again this past week and noticed an underwater bug hatch when the bite picked up. This of coarse is no big surprise; underwater hatches and bream go together like peas and carrots. What was weird is that the hatches seemed to take place right before a front came thru. Most of the waters I fish are either moving waters like rivers, creeks or streams (moving water most of the time makes it hard to spot signs of a hatch) or very weedy (which tend to have bugs and invertebrates that hatch and cling to weed stalks and the under sides of leafy vegetation), so I rarely get to see this phenomenon.

I figure some of yall might actually see hatches a lot more than the rest of us, so my question is, do hatches often correspond with weather fronts? Maybe it's got to do with what is actually hatching down there?

As for the hatches I fished, I did ok. The first one I fished was a deep hatch. I caught fish on almost every cast with a nose hooked minnow plastic and then nose hooked tube rigged about 4' under a fixed float. The last time the storm kicked up to close so I had to high tail it to the truck, so only caught just a few on a tube rigged on an internal jighead. Seems like the bobber rig worked a bit better for this hatch. Also, they were really keyed onto that hatch! If I wasn't at least close to the hatch they wouldn't bite and my presentation definitely had to be buggy or minnow imitation. Otherwise, no bites. A clear or smoke 1"-2" tube with some flake in it was definitely the trick. Thanks for the replies and what ever insight yall can provide!!

The most common hatches I see are the Cricket and Mayfly hatch. Sunfish bite is ON especially during the Mayfly hatches.

I like the Dobson Fly larvae hatch usually in hill country streams of central Texas. My the preference is to capture the larvae which are found by turning over sizeable rocks in the streams and pulling the larvae from them. The larvae stay here eating the algae until they are mature enough to fly. The larvae will catch almost anything in the streams when fished properly.
