I took a nice break over lunch and fished the north pond of Ken Good park in Carrollton near I35. Only one bite in the hour I fished, but it was a good one on the first cast!

Plenty of sunfish in the shallows all over the place, and I saw a pretty nice sized gar in the shallows near the outflow snatching up bluegills that had little spawning beds there. Couldn't get a picture of him, however, since he ran once he saw the camera come out!

There are lillypads surrounding the entire shore of the south half of the pond. If you had a kayak it'd be a nice little place to jig. As is bank fishing is tough on about half the north pond, and nearly all of the south pond. These ponds are SUPER fishy though, and the one fish I did bring in was bigger than the usual pond bass you find around DFW.

Nice fish. Where can you park legally to fish there? Looks like the whole area is surrounded by industrial buildings on Google Maps.

You can park your car on the pond side of 1441-1499 Ismaili Center Cir in Carrollton. The side of the street opposite the north pond has "No Parking" signs, but the pond side is free and clear. Since its an industrial area, I didn't see anyone else around at all until I was leaving and there were two cars parked near mine full of families coming to the park for a picnic.

The cul-de-sac at the end of Ismaili circle also is No Parking.

I can't explain why it happens. but it happens often. I do notice that I tend to be less patient and a bit over confident after I catch one on the first cast. I'm sure that plays a factor. Neither that or the rest of the fish scatter off after all the commotion their buddy created while being caught.

I've noticed the "first cast curse" too!

And you're right in my case I think. I got so hyped about catching a 4ish pound bass on my first cast (and hence finding a premium new fishing spot) that I didn't present the lures as well for the rest of the time I was there. It's definitely on me!

Ironically had the same experience at Ken Goode. Only been there once. Caught a 4lb in the first couple of cast then nothing. Live to far to try again. It has some big Lilly pad beds so if you have heavy gear might be fun to hit those.
