I was looking to buy a 4lb test and 6lb test bulk spool of Trilene XL this March to get ready for the new fishing season like I tend to do every year. I went on BPS site since I have a rewards card for them, but it was around $20 for a 1,000 yard spool. Even more from Cabela's and around the same price same price at Academy. Even tried eBay, Amazon and places where I don't normally try like Gander Mountain, Tackle Warehouse and just plain Google searches. All still high; mail-in rebate nuts , but high. Started looking around for a cheaper alternative and came across Crappie Maxx Camo Fishing Line by BPS. I have been sold on green tinted mono for my panfishing needs for quite a while. Even fished green tinted and clear Trilene XL side by side and the green just flat out got more bites, so I was skeptical to try a multi-color tint job. Got a 1/4 pound spool (3,190 yards of 4lb test) for $5.29 (on sale in Spring; normally $8.29. Still a good price)!!! Was even more skeptical. How good can it be for that price? So I put it on the live bait rigs I use for the wife and kids. Old Quantum Xtralite 6' UL rods we got from Academy match with Pinnacle reels. Got as many bites I would normally expect from the Trilene if not more. Was pretty impressed but didn't spool up with my artificial rigs yet. Kept the same line on the rigs and the family fished with them on and off for a few months without changing line and the line is still as supple as it was the day I put it on (have been spraying KVD line conditioner before trips, but did the same with the Trilene). Eyebrow raising impressed now. Normally with the Trilene, after a few trips you have to change out the line or suffer shorter casts. At least that's how it is with my jigs and crankbaits. So now I have spooled up my St Croix and BPS rigs with it and have tried it once with my BPS rig and gotta say, it's at least as sensitive as the Trilene and maybe even a bit more supple. Haven't had it on for more than a few days so I can't speak to the time test yet, but if it is anything like it has been on the live bait rigs, I think I found a new line! I have tried other cheaper lines before and have been sorely disappointed. For the first spool of the Crappie Maxx Camo, I can highly recommend it. Especially for the price! I've spent around $8.00 for a 330 yard filler spool before. Almost 10X the line for the same price?!? Worth the gamble. Good luck out there, yall!

Very interesting.

Your review shows how ridiculous the markup is on lines. Over 3000 yards for about $5.
