Just wondering from the locals down there is it worse this year or is it getting more publicity because of social media. I have a lot of family coming down mid July and would really appreciate your take on if it's safe and what precautions need to be taken. Thank you

I just soak everyone down with peroxide after a wade.

We also don't wade the back lakes which seem to have the nasty little bugs as much as the main bay.

My wife is an OR nurse and talks about this a lot. She is not a fan of letting the kids swim in the lakes. She will take surgical glue and seal up all the chigger bites and any sores on them before we leave the house for the lake. She works in Greenville so she sees anything that comes from Tawakoni and last week a man lost his leg to this. He contracted it in tawakoni. She has researched it and says moving water or water with any current at all you should be okay. It's the stagnant water where this stuff lives and more easily contracted. So avoid any stagnant back water and you should be okay. If you don't have surgical glue I'm sure the pharmacy sells that spray on bandaid stuff that would help if you want to take it that far.

NO OPEN WOUNDS whatsoever. If you must go in use liquid skin to cover the area thoroughly. If you get cut in the water clean it of with HIBICLENS Antiseptic Liquid Skin Cleanser and watch the area to make sure it doesn't sore up a few hours after you swim. If it does go to doc fast.
I say just don't go in right now with an open wound or cut period.

Their has been 16 cases of Vibrio this year so far, from Corpus up to Galveston. If in doubt.....don't go into the water.

My brother-in-law is a Podiatrist and does many 'below the knee' amputations for people with Uncontrolled Diabetes or other issues related to a comprised immunity situation. He Always tells me "STAY OUTA THE MUCK" in rivers, lakes, bays if you have any open wounds. He also told me that STAPH is much more prevalent than Vibro. Stay CLEEEEEN--- CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and seal cuts. and clean again. over 100,000 thousand people in the water over the past weekend- Probably more and more this coming weekend. Just use common sense! Stagnant water shouldn't be consumed... so why in the world would you wade in it? Esp. knowing all the high water and sewer issues these past two years have brought to Texas?

Actually the 100,000 was just on Padre Alone. Use social media wisely...don't get all caught up in the sensationalism rants, just use COMMON SENSE and don't put yourself in that situation. Hydrogen Peroxide,Hibiclens and a Triple Antibiotic application wouldn't hurt. All good info. Liquid Bandage to seal. This stuff has been around for a long time and people have been wading, beachcombing and many other activities. Common sense back in the 80's when I grew up still works today! I'm sure we had more 'unregulated' dumpings of blackwater, septic overflows etc. back then than we do now.

I always get my hands cut from fish and and clean it in the lake water. I wonder if certain people are immune to this bacteria.

Ain't nobody immune, but most people if you don't have a compromised immune system won't have any problem.
