I'm headed down to the Rockport Bay area and plan on chasing some specks and reds with my boat, but have never been down to that area before. I'm an experienced bass and fly angler but was looking for some helpful basic tips and techniques to help me out while I get started down there. Plan on using my 8 weight but also have spinning rods. Anyone have some fly/lure selection or patterns they wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks!

Save yourself some grief and buy a Hook-N-Line map of the Rockport area. It's called the Wade fishing, Fly Fishing & Kayak Fishing map. Yeah, your cell phone app has a map, but the real, waterproof Hook-N-Line map has thousands of bits of information that you will need to help you catch fish and keep from tearing up your boat and equipment. Good investment for $12.00. Aransas County and San Patricio County have many public(free) ramps and safe places for your trailer and vehicle. Lots of bait shops and tackle shops in the area. Plus, if you don't catch much, there are a lot of really great restaurants! Wear lots of sunscreen and light-colored clothing. Enjoy!
