Having a problem with top speed. The normal top speed for this boat is 68-71. I can only get it to 55-56 and then it starts to loose rpm. I can back off the hot foot and step on it and it will accelerate for a short time.
Replaced all three fuel pumps, fuel filter and made sure the VST filter was clean.
Block was rebuilt less than two years ago.
Any thoughts?

What about fuel lines? How old could they be collapsing?

Electric fuel pump in the VST could be getting weak. Be careful and check the fuel pressure or you will pop another motor. Not knowing which motor you have you might investigate the hidden filters.

Thanks. Looks like there is one more inline filter to replace. Both the VST filter and the main filter are clean and clear. I'll have to take it to a marine shop to check fuel pressure.

HPDI Mystery Filters.

Yamaha HPDI mystery filters

The so called mystery filters are there for a reason and a very good one at that. Removing these filters will shorten the lifespan of the Yamaha High Pressure Direct Injection Pump (HPDI) dramatically and in some instances end it completely.

The older style HPDI pumps were fitted with three of these HPDI mystery filters. Two in the actual pump body and one in the pressure regulator. The new style HPDI pumps are fitted with two “mystery filters” per pump. IE two for a single pump and four for a double pump. Both located in the pump body.

We receive calls on a regular basis asking about the Yamaha HPDI mystery filters and if as mentioned on forums, it is a good idea to remove the filters completely. The answer is simple, replace them with new ones but DO NOT REMOVE THE FILTERS….EVER!

Mine is an OX66 not an HPDI. I don't know if that is better or worst for this particular issue.

Update. After checking the fuel tank fitting for a clogged anti-siphon valve, checking the fuel pressure, having the rebuild shop check compression and fire at the coils, I changed out the fuel pump in the VST.
this seemed to help the problem of no top speed but after two days of running the motor in test runs it blew a hole in the block will running top speed for about four minutes.
Not sure about my rebuild warranty but my be in the market for a new/new to me motor.
